Accessing Healthcare & Benefits while in a Shelter

If a veteran relocates to a shelter or FEMA Disaster Recovery Center due to a natural disaster:

  • VA may already have deployment teams on site to help veterans access health care and VA benefits.

  • Veterans needing housing assistance will be assigned a VA case manager to coordinate support.

VA-Backed Home Loan Disaster Relief

  • VA encourages mortgage servicers to:

    • Implement a 90-day pause on foreclosures

    • Waive late fees after a declared disaster

  • Veterans should contact:

    • Their mortgage servicer, and/or

    • VA Loan Support: 877-827-3702 (Mon–Fri, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. ET)
